From the Illinois State Rifle Assn:
ISRA URGENT ALERT ? YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION REQUIRED
Larry Suffredin and his cohorts on the Cook County Board are up to
their old tricks again.
In order to justify passage of gun control ordinances designed to
close all gun shops and ban and confiscate most guns owned by
citizens of the county, the Cook County Board is conducting a
telephone poll where callers can vote for or against the gun control
ordinances.
Like everything else in Cook County, this poll is probably rigged.
So, it?s very important that you do the following:
1. Call 1-312 -603-6400 and select Option #1 when prompted. At the
next prompt, select Option #1 again. Then, when prompted to vote on
the gun control ordinance, press #2.
2. You should also forward this alert on to all your gun owning
friends and have them vote too.
3. You should also post this alert to any and all Internet bulletin
boards or blogs to which you belong.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT OF COOK COUNTY TO VOTE!
Let?s beat Suffredin at his own game! Vote early and often, and save your guns.

Boy Attacked by Rabid Mountain Lion
Tell me again why we're even having a debate about allowing people to carry guns in National Parks? The danger this time was of the four legged variety, but there are numerous crimes, up to and including rape and murder, in our National Parks. Sometimes they even find the bodies. Just because you're in the wilderness doesn't mean you're safe, anymore than when out and about in "civilization."
...
Read more here.
"After a morning spent riding their ATVs, they stopped by a river around 2 p.m. to eat lunch. The two kids were on a sandy beach when the female mountain lion arrived, apparently also intent on a meal.
“She was walking and she just stopped right behind me,” P.J. said, his tone as matter-of-fact as if he were describing an encounter with a kitten. “I see my little cousin Brittany, she looks scared in her face. So I turn around and I see it. Then everyone starts saying, ‘Hold still. Hold still,’ so we just froze.”
“I was actually scared at first. I was shaking,” added Brittany, who said her discomfort was made worse because “I had an itch in my back.”
But when she heard her grandmother yelling, “Stay still. Don’t move. Don’t move,” that’s just what she did.
P.J.’s grandfather, Newton Smith, was about 10 feet away, and he’s convinced that had the children started screaming and running, the lion would have gone into lethal attack mode. Instead, it casually investigated P.J., who showed remarkable courage by standing stock-still as the animal scratched his back with its claws. Even when the lion opened its jaws and tried to get his head in its jaws, he didn’t move."
...
"Fortunately, another adult — P.J.’s uncle — in the party had brought a handgun along and had left it in a vehicle that was parked nearby. He ran to get the gun, and when the animal started to investigate whether P.J.’s head was bite-sized, Smith told him to shoot the animal, which he did with one extremely well-placed shot."

"The Government Should have a Monopoly on Force"
Or in other words, "Only the Police and military should have guns." Tell that to the starving North Koreans who were recently executed because they dared cross into China looking for food for themselves and their families.
Is this really the kind of world we want?
------
North Korea publicly executes 15 starving refugees fleeing to China in desperate search for food
North Korea has publicly executed 15 starving people, mostly women, for illegally entering neighbouring China in search of food, an aid group said yesterday.
The 13 women and two men were shot on a bridge in the north-eastern town of Onseong as local residents watched. It was the second mass execution to be reported this week.
The group of 15 were sentenced to death for illegally crossing the border into China or for helping others to do so, to ask for help, in money or food, from relatives living there.
The report of the shootings, on February 20, came from the South Korean group, Good Friends, which works in the North.
Officials in South Korea's unification ministry, who handle relations with the impoverished communist North, could not confirm the bridge killings.
But Good Friends said residents were appalled by what they saw.
One resident said: "The shooting was too much - all those people did it for their livelihood. They got too harsh punishment. Everyone is anxious about a lack of food."
Good Friends, citing a local official, said the execution was aimed at deterring an expected surge of people illegally crossing the border this spring.
It has become a daily routine for a few residents to disappear and illegally cross the border to visit relatives in China.
"We shot them to send a warning to people," the official said.
Good Friends said unauthorised border crossings are normally punishable with a maximum seven year jail sentence.
North Korea suffers severe food shortages and frontier provinces provide opportunities for residents to get supplies before returning.
Others flee their homeland through China, the refugees often travelling to Southeast Asia hoping to win resettlement in South Korea.
Rights groups estimate tens of thousands of North Koreans are hiding in northeast China.
In another alleged incident of North Korean zero tolerance of anyone suspected of trying to leave the country, a South Korean newspaper yesterday reported North Korea had executed 22 fishermen on their return after straying out of the country's waters by mistake.
Having drifted into South Korean territory, they told officials they had no intention of claiming asylum.
They said they strayed accidentally while fishing for clams and oysters. They were sent back to North Korea where the fishermen were shot dead by agents of North Korea's national security agency.
Is this really the kind of world we want?

What the Anti's Want
Sear and Hammer has a rather graphic video on his blog of a vicious attack in the Netherlands (Rotterdam) in which a woman was stabbed over seventy times by a knife wielding psychopath. The bystanders try ineffectually several times to "karate kick" the attacker into submission without success. This attack goes on for some time before someone is able to drag him off of her. Fortunately the victim lived, although she still suffers from the aftereffects. After trying brutally to kill this woman, the attacker only got four years in prison.
Four freaking years!
In a perfect world, a helpful bystander would have pulled out their gun and blown the motherf&%#@& away. No trial, no parole, no coming back to harm his victim in four years.
Here is what wikipedia has to say about Netherlands gun law:
Together, we can stop them, but it requires ever diligence and no compromise with evil. And just remember, when they say they don't want to ban your kind of gun, it's only a matter of time before they come for you, and by then there will be no-one to speak up for you.
There are no separate groups. There are no "hunters" or "shooters" or "shotgunners", there is only "Gun Owners". Think about it, with 80M plus gun owners in this nation, do you think the politicians would listen if 80M people stood together with one voice and said "No More!"?
I think they would.
So get involved, join a gun rights group, stand up for your rights, because no-one else is going to. Together, we can stop them and take back all of the rights the second amendment promises up.
UPDATE: Gun Debate Critic has also covered this story and I somehow overlooked it.

Here is what wikipedia has to say about Netherlands gun law:
"Dutch gun law is typical of the Western European approach. Firearm possession is not subject to any constitutional protections, but regulated simply in the Arms and Ammunition Act (Wet Wapens en Munitie). Weapons, including firearms, are divided into four categories, and for each of the categories a certain maximum punishment is set for "voorhanden hebben" (possession), and "dragen" (carrying in public).
Only citizens who are members of hunting and shooting sports clubs may obtain licences for weapons. And even then they may only get a licence for category III weapons (sports weapons).
Firearm possession and use by the military and the police is not subject to Arms and Ammunition Act, but regulated separately.
Sale is only for those age 17 or over."
So basically, every law abiding citizen is unarmed. No wonder the only weapons on display in this video is a knife (held by the bad guy) and hands, feet and a stick (held by the law abiding citizens).
Together, we can stop them, but it requires ever diligence and no compromise with evil. And just remember, when they say they don't want to ban your kind of gun, it's only a matter of time before they come for you, and by then there will be no-one to speak up for you.

Wise Words From Uncle Ted
Gun-free zones get people killed
Ted Nugent
December 10, 2007 12:00 PM
Here we go again. Someone tell me why, with nearly 3,000 articles written worldwide within 48 hours following the tragic slaughter at the Omaha, Neb. Westroads Mall last week, not a single article mentioned the most important fact of all -- that there were "no guns allowed" in the mall?
What helped cause the tragedy is the liberal dream known as "gun-free zones." Guns also weren't allowed at Columbine High School, Virginia Tech University, Luby's cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, and every other location where the wanton slaughter of unarmed, helpless victims is a virtual guarantee.
It is truly anti-American and downright bizarro that private property and business owners can deny (that is, "infringe" on) this "inalienable" right bestowed upon free men by our Creator.
Consider what happened last year at a Salt Lake City mall. An armed off-duty cop properly defied that mall's "gun-free" policy and thwarted a mass shooting that was about to unfold.
How dense must someone be to hide from this information? Denial runs deep in a growing population of "we the sheeple." For shame.
When did a nation of rugged individuals turn into helpless whiners, crying and running in fear from danger and evil?
When did we abandon our natural instinct to counterpunch and attack evil, overpowering it and neutralizing it into submission?
When were we forced to dial 9-1-1, wasting precious, decisive time, instead of doing the right thing and stopping bad guys ourselves? When did we trade in independence for dependency? It's pathetic.
Every day in this country, according to the Department of Justice and other studies, armed, law-abiding citizens stop dangerous, violent confrontations from escalating into death and tragedy simply by having a gun handy to provide real "equality" on the mean streets of America.
Dedicated cops will tell you that they can't possibly be there to protect us. By the time the police show up, many innocents will likely perish at the hands of evil while good people hang around hoping and praying.
I would highly recommend that we finally learn from all these senseless tragedies. Get real. Get rid of politicians who support gun-free slaughter zones. Get rid of gun-free zones. Get a gun, learn to use it and do the right thing.
Bad guys should be shot dead, not Christmas shoppers.

Oregon Teacher Loses Right to Defend Herself
Click here for PDF of the ruling.
--------
Judge rules teacher cannot bring gun to school
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An English teacher in Southern Oregon has no right to take her semiautomatic handgun onto school grounds, a judge said Friday in a ruling that may clarify a possible conflict between school policy and state law on concealed weapons.
Shirley Katz claimed she had a right to carry a handgun, as a defense against intruders or her former husband, despite Medford School District policy against teachers carrying weapons.
Her attorney, James Leuenberger, argued that only the Legislature, not local governments, can regulate firearms under state law.
But Jackson County Circuit Judge G. Philip Arnold ruled Friday that an ordinance is different from a school district employment policy for its teachers.
"The district has the right to enforce its policy," Arnold wrote to conclude his nine-page ruling.
State law does not prohibit carrying a gun in school if the owner has a concealed weapon permit issued by a county sheriff.
But the Medford School District has a policy that prohibits employees from carrying firearms. Teachers or staff could face disciplinary action or be fired for violating the policy.
Tim Gerking, the school district's lawyer, welcomed the ruling.
"Allowing staff to carry weapons into school buildings wouldn't enhance safety, it would only make it worse," Gerking said. "We'd have a completely new risk of accidental injuries as a result of these weapons."
Leuenberger said he planned to appeal.
"I think the judge obviously is wrong," Leuenberger said. "To make a big difference between a policy and an ordinance makes no sense. This is just an antigun decision."
Katz has said she obtained the Glock 9mm handgun - favored by many police departments - to protect herself against alleged threats from her ex-husband during their divorce in 2004. The ex-husband has denied the allegations, but a judge granted a restraining order against him that since has expired.
Arnold noted in his ruling that Katz's "personal problems are not a factor in deciding this case" and that, "likewise, the wisdom of the district's policy is not a factor ... the issue before this court is whether or not the state statute prohibits the district from having its policy ... ."
Most Oregon school districts have policies against guns on school grounds.
A spokeswoman for state school Superintendent Susan Castillo said Oregon Department of Education officials had not seen the ruling and could not comment.

It's that time of year again...
I can't bring myself to post much today, on this day when over 3,000 innocent people were murdered six years ago. Every year at this time I get depressed, I can't help it.
It's been six years now, and the sociopath responsible is still alive. I would personally end his miserable existence if given the opportunity, but let's face it, that's not likely to happen.
In the meantime, others with the same psychopathic hatred and disregard for human life run about doing his bidding. Yet in the face of this, there are some who would still have us disarmed in the face of death. Never mind the everyday threat to life and property from the criminal element, we have these nuts to worry about too. ...and still they stick their heads in the sand and pretend they can't hear reason.
We're in for a long fight ladies and gentlemen, and it's not going to end unless we're victorious, or we surrender and convert. Funny how the same people who want to disarm me are the same people fighting for our destruction, praying for a defeat to suit their political goals.
Anyway... This will be the last post today. I'm going to take my kids out to the park while it's still warm and sunny. Perhaps things will start to look better.
